Kamal Alsawafy is a lifelong Dearborn resident, a Captain in the Michigan Army National Guard, a Bronze Star recipient, and a proud member of the Dearborn City Council.
About Kamal
Elected in 2021, Kamal has worked to bring transparency, accountability, and results-driven leadership to City Hall. From championing inclusive recreation to strengthening public safety and infrastructure, he has been a consistent advocate for residents across every part of Dearborn.
Raised in a working-class Dearborn household, Kamal learned early that leadership begins with service. From his military tours overseas to his role in shaping local policy, Kamal has always fought to protect, support, and uplift the communities he serves.
As a former Wayne County Business Development Manager, he helped deliver economic recovery support during the pandemic. Today, as a member of the Dearborn City Council, he focuses on smart budgeting, neighborhood investment, inclusive access, and transparent governance.
“I’ve served our country, our county, and now I’m honored to serve our city. I don’t just support good ideas — I work to pass the policies and budgets that make them real.”
